HACKATHON OVERVIEW

Space Exploration Engineering Kompetition Junior (SEEK Jr) is a full-day introduction to robotics hackathon on February 4, 2024 hosted by the University of Toronto’s Mars Rover Design Team “Robotics for Space Exploration (RSX).” This hackathon is open to high school students who are interested in learning more about space robotics and engineering and will be held at the University of Toronto's St. George Campus in downtown Toronto. No experience is needed!

This year the theme is Exploring the Moon for Scientific Investigation — inspired by the Artemis Project. In groups of five and six, you will be challenged to build a mini rover and traverse through a simulated lunar terrain. Compete against other teams to see who can complete their lunar mission first!

What to Expect

BEFORE SEEK Jr

Receive modules and tutorials to prepare for kompetition.

Attend Q&A sessions hosted by RSX

DURING SEEK

  • Receive your mission and listen to a mini-lecture and practical examples.

  • Join your group to design and build your mini rover.

  • Compete against other teams in a simulated lunar terrain.

Why Attend?

Do I need experience?

No experience is required! This hackathon is aimed to be an introduction to space robotics for high school students, so if you are new to robotics or hackathons, don’t worry! We will provide everything you need to know and all of the components required.

Before the kompetition, our team of “Technical Module Technicians” (members from the RSX team) will provide online modules to introduce the components you will use to build your rover and teach you how to use them. Starting in February, RSX will host weekly virtual Q&A drop-in sessions that any SEEK Jr participant can attend to ask any questions or just listen! Our team will be there along the way to help you and provide guidance!

If you’re interested in space robotics or space engineering, this is the hackathon for you!

So... are you ready to explore the moon?
